To many people, doing their jobs from home is an unattainable fantasy. If you do take a chance on a work from home job or business it is important to manage your time and set a suitable scene and environment to create your success from. Working from home is the fantasy for many people stuck in the nine to five routine. There are many people however who are currently living the home office dream and they are struggling with productivity due to the distractions of everyday life. So whether you work from home full time or on a semi regular basis, putting some effort into your environment can offer up some great benefits to your effectiveness.
- First things first. Before you sit down at a computer, and get to work you need to have somewhere to sit. The basic principles to prioritize, include a chair with adjustable height and good lumbar support. then make sure you position your keyboard and screen to suit your best sitting position.
- Buying a quality keyboard and mouse combination is a worthwhile investment. Microsoft excels in this space offering a solid range of comfortable keyboards to suit a range of budgets
- When choosing a monitor an LCD screen is now considered an investment.
- If you work with a laptop, an added screen or monitor can assist with productivity.
- Your office also needs to be connected, and most internet service providers now offer approved modem/router hardware as part of the deal. If you have options, look to get the latest networking technologies onboard. It is worth the effort.
- Voice Over IP (VoIP) can be an excellent tool for a home office, keeping the need for added phone lines down.
- Skype has added benefits that standard VoIP cant match. Skype also supports the new Spin Vox voicemail to text service and once activated, any voicemail received in your Skype account will be converted to text and delivered to your phone by SMS.
Time management is paramount for success in your work at home environment. Plan your next day the day before. Work in blocks of time and stick to the plan to achieve all of your goals. Have them written down and mark each one off as you move through them.

9am - 10am Editing
10am - 11am Email marketing
11am - 1pm Break and free time with the family
1pm - 3pm Follow up enquiries
3pm - 4pm Source new products
4pm - 4.30pm Set a plan for tomorrow
Set weekly goals, monthly goals and yearly goals. write them down and keep them in a visible spot. A great idea is a white board and marker directly in front of your desk with all of your plan clearly visible. Mark them off as you achieve them
